Let’s keep experience in office serving US!

There is one candidate that I am supporting in the upcoming General Election on November 8th. Michael Griffin is seeking your support to continue serving as the District One state senator for Northwest Indiana. The District One area only touches the western portion of Merrillville encompassing voting precincts 02, 03, 04, 13, 16, 21, 30, 33, and 34.

I have known Michael for over 35 years first meeting him during my first term on the Merrillville Town Council in 1991. At that time, he was serving as the Clerk-Treasurer in the Town of Highland. He quickly grew into one of the most highly respected Indiana Clerk-Treasurers in the state and remains in high regard today.

Michael left his Town of Highland elected position serving as the Clerk-Treasurer last year to fill the unexpired term of former Sen. Frank Mrvan who retired on January 11, 2022, from District One. Michael was elected during a Lake County Democratic precinct caucus last year (February 5, 2022) to serve the balance of the term.

The newly formed District One serves Highland, Griffith, Calumet Township, Dyer, Schererville, St. John, St. John Township, and small portions of western Merrillville. I have always been impressed by Michael’s work ethic, commitment to serving, and integrity. I often ask myself as I serve all of you today on the Merrillville Town Council, “what would Michael do with this issue”, and I’ve contacted him frequently over the years for advice and counsel and his knowledge has always proved invaluable. He is a very serious leader, astute, and experienced, and has been an educator for many years. His impressive resume is too large to list here, but you may view it at this link:

Occasionally we are blessed with candidates who put public service above themselves. Michael Griffin is that kind of candidate and he wholeheartedly receives my support and full endorsement for the State Senate District One race.

I hope you will join me in keeping intelligent, experienced, and caring individuals in public office in our region. Please vote in the General Election on November 8, 2022, and cast a vote for my friend and colleague Michael Griffin. Thank you for your consideration. -Rick Bella
