Tonight, I was deeply honored to be elected by my fellow Merrillville Town Council members to serve as Town Council President for 2026. This marks my seventh consecutive year serving as chair of the board—a responsibility I never take lightly.
I was grateful to be nominated, but I must admit I was genuinely surprised and humbled when no other nominations were presented. Councilor Shawn Pettit then made a motion to close nominations and to cast a unanimous vote for President, which was supported by the council. I am truly appreciative of the confidence my colleagues have placed in me.
Councilor Rhonda Neal was nominated to serve again as Vice President and with no other nominations again the council closed nominations and cast an unanimous vote for Vice President Neal.
Leadership in local government is never a solo effort. I am proud to work alongside six dedicated fellow councilors who each bring their own perspective, experience, and commitment to the table. Together, we have made meaningful progress for Merrillville, and together we will continue that work.
As we move forward into 2026, my focus remains the same:
to collaborate, to listen, and to always do what is in the best interest of our town and its 36,000+ residents. Merrillville is a community with momentum, and I look forward to continuing to help guide our town toward thoughtful growth, fiscal responsibility, and a strong quality of life for all who call it home.
Thank you to my colleagues for their trust and thank you to the residents of Merrillville for the opportunity to serve.
