At this time of year, our community always shows what makes Merrillville special — neighbors looking out for one another and coming together to lift spirits when it matters most. As Town Council President, I’ve seen firsthand how generous and compassionate our residents can be, especially when it comes to helping families in need.
The holidays should be a season of joy and hope, but for many families across America, these are challenging times. Economic pressures and rising costs have made it difficult for some parents to provide even the simplest gifts for their children. That’s why I’m asking Merrillville residents to once again open their hearts and support the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots program, which has brought smiles to millions of children for generations.
If you’re able, please consider donating a new, unwrapped toy to help brighten the holidays for a local child. Your small act of kindness can make a world of difference to a family facing tough times — and remind them that their community cares.
You may drop off toys at either of our two official Merrillville collection sites:
Dean and Barbara White Community Center
6600 Broadway
Merrillville Town Hall
7820 Broadway
We are fortunate to live in a community where generosity thrives and where neighbors still believe in lending a hand. Let’s come together to ensure every child in Merrillville feels the joy and excitement that the holiday season should bring.
Thank you for continuing to make Merrillville a community that cares.
Warmest regards and Happy Holidays to you all,
Rick Bella, Town Council President – Ward 5 Representative
