Tarrance Price to Lead Parks & Recreation Department

The Town Council promoted Tarrance Price to the position of Director of Parks and Recreation at its December 30, 2021 Special Meeting celebrating the towns 50th year. Tarrance was hired 3 months ago to serve as the Assistant Director of Parks and has been doing an outstanding job. Since the opening already existed, the Council decided to suspend the search for a Director and promote Tarrance to the top Parks spot.

Tarrance recently served in the Valparaiso Parks and Recreation Department as the Recreation Superintendent. Prior to that he was a Youth and Adults Sport Coordinator. He  brings a wealth of knowledge in athletics and directing sports programs and even was the Head Freshman Basketball Coach at Junction City High School in Junction City, KS. ‘

He was a Physical Education Teacher and Head Varsity Basketball Coach and played football himself in the past. With a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and a Master of Science in Sports Administration we feel confident that Tarrance will assist the town with moving forward the programs and utilize the new Dean and Barbara White Community Center to the fullest. Tarrance began his new duties on January 1st. Stop by the Community Center to meet him. He is very pleasant and welcoming individual. Congrats Tarrance. -Rick Bella for the Town of Merrillville
