Finishing touches this week complete the Dean and Barbara White Community Center and ready it for opening March 1, 2021. Workers yesterday placed the 300-pound solid copper bronzed plaque on the entrance area of the center to dedicate the building to the citizens of the Town of Merrillville.

The plaque, measuring 48 inches wide by 40 inches tall lists town officials and other partners who helped secure the financing for the project, did legal work, and includes a listing of the partnering sub-contractors who were hired by CORE Construction to build the $24M multi-function community and event center.

With a complete fitness center, and three regulation basketball courts that convert into 6 volleyball courts, as well as an elevated walking/jogging track, golf simulator, rock/boulder climbing wall and a lounge to refresh and recharge, the center will provide a variety of sporting and fitness activities. The artificial turf football/soccer field will provide outdoor field sport activities.

The event center will offer great space for small, medium and large events of all types including weddings, conferences, events, and business meetings. The center will offer a wonderful pre-function area and on nice days the outdoor patio can be used for reception space.

Doors open Monday, March 1st at 8:00 a.m. Regular hours of operation will be Monday through Friday 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. – Saturday 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. – Sunday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. -Rick Bella, Councilman
