Juneteenth Celebration June 17th
Save the Date of June 17th for this year’s Juneteenth Freedom Festival. The Saturday event is from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. at the Dean and Barbara White Community Center at 6600 Broadway. Performing this year will be DJ T. Black, who will provide music and serve as the MC for the day. The Steven Mann Band will also be performing as well as the Voices of Love Gospel Choir.
We will have several Corvette cars on display. The Community Healthnet Tent will be on site and the Boys and Girls Club of Northwest Indiana will have a S.T.E.M. display. Jeremey Pekarek of Indiana University, Archivist, is setting up an educational display for the festival.
There will also be food and drinks, bouncy houses for the kids, a Juneteenth History Exhibit as well as local vendors displaying and selling their products. I hope you can join us for a celebration of freedom and resilience!

Independence Day Fireworks July 3rd
Save the date of July 3rd for this year’s Fireworks Display which will be launched from behind Merrillville High School. Free parking is available again in the sports field parking areas as well as in front of the school. Fireworks will begin around 9:00 p.m. and usually last about 40 minutes. We are expecting a spectacular show this year. No alcohol is allowed. You may bring chairs to sit on in designated areas or watch from your vehicles or near your parking space.

Independence Day Parade July 4th
The holiday parade will take place on July 4th beginning at 11:00 a.m. from the Dean and Barbara White Community Center and heading south down Broadway ending at 80th Place. If you have an interest in participating in the parade, please contact the Town Administration office at 219.769.5711 Ext 303. You may also download a parade application at the town website using the button below. We are looking for kids-decorated bicycles, Antique cars, floats, dance and musical groups, and business entries. A variety of prizes will be available and I’ll post more as details are finalized.
