The Town of Merrillville will host the last of three events this year to celebrate Merrillville’s 50th year! On December 11, 2021, the town will celebrate an open to the public birthday party to be held at the Mike Anderson Event Center at the Dean and Barbara White Community Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Music will be provided by the Christian Revival Center Choir, Merrillville High Schools well known Vocalteens, and by DJ Brian Derring. The MHS ROTC members will also be present to assist with the day’s festivities. Food and Beverages will be provided. On display will be a variety of Town memorabilia and town historical facts so residents can learn about how and when Merrillville was born.
Many Merrillville businesses and organizations will be on display providing a business expo so residents may learn about local businesses and see what they offer for our community. Some will be businesses that have been around either before or since Merrillville became a town.
Tours of the new Dean and Barbara White Community Center will be given during the event allowing residents and visitors a chance to see the $24M facility with just opened this year in March. Everyone is welcome and there is plenty of room at the center to to keep social distancing.
Please plan to stop by between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. for the festivities and to help us celebrate our town’s 50th anniversary. Hope to see you there! -Rick Bella, Ward 5 Councilman
