Like their logo, Merrillville residents should also have a big smile today after learning about a new Amazon delivery station already being built in Merrillville.
What a week we are having in Merrillville! On the cusp of the Dean and Barbara White Community Center opening on Monday, Amazon announced today that four new delivery stations – located in Indianapolis, Greenfield, Merrillville and Valparaiso are scheduled to open in Indiana in 2021, while one AMXL station opened last month in South Bend. Each of these facilities power Amazon’s last-mile delivery capabilities and offer efficient deliveries to customers across the state.
These new stations will create hundreds of full-time jobs, paying a starting wage of $15 per hour and offering a variety of benefits from day one.
Delivery stations power the last mile of Amazon’s order fulfillment process. Packages are transported to delivery stations from Amazon fulfillment and sortation centers, and then loaded into vehicles for delivery to customers.
Merrillville appreciates Amazon’s decision to invest in a projected $30M project bringing over 300 jobs to the community including 125 to 150 jobs with benefits working inside the facility, 230 delivery driver positions, and approximately 60 Amazon Flex Drivers. Amazon’s significant investment is representative of our goal to foster a positive business climate promoted by an accessible and proactive Town government. This will be truly a wonderful addition to Merrillville.
The building is 141,360 square feet and is already under construction on 35 acres, is located in the Ameriplex at the Crossroads business park. The address will be 9751 Massachusetts Drive. The business park has had great interest in the past year and we’ll be announcing other projects underway or coming soon to the park. A Fortune 100 company like Amazon will be a huge benefit to Merrillville from an economic development standpoint and will draw other companies to the park for years to come.
